UN chief appoints Somali as resident and humanitarian coordinator in Pakistan

UN secretary general António Guterres has appointed Mohamed Yahya of Somalia as the body’s resident and humanitarian coordinator in Pakistan.

According to the UN, Mohamed,  who previously served as the UN Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative in Nigeria, took up his new post on January 21.

He holds a master’s degree in violence, conflict and development and a bachelor’s degree in politics and history from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, it added.

Mohamed, who has over 20 years of experience in development and peacebuilding, has also worked as UNDP’s coordinator for its Africa regional programme based in Addis Ababa.

He has also worked for the UN in Afghanistan and Liberia.
