Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in the Turkish resort city of Antalya late on Thursday to attend a diplomacy forum.
Mohamud’s office said the president will participate in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum taking place on March 1-3.
“He will engage in pivotal discussions with Turkish leadership to strengthen the longstanding, historic ties between Somalia and Türkiye,” it added.
The annual Antalya Diplomacy Forum will be hosted by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with year’s theme being “advancing diplomacy in times of turmoil”.
It will bring together heads of state and government, ministers, diplomats, business leaders, academics, think-tankers and youth and media representatives for an all-encompassing debate.
The participants will discuss ongoing wars, acts of terrorism, irregular migration, rise of xenophobia and Islamophobia, unforeseen risks of Artificial Intelligence, climate change, natural disasters, among other issues.
Mohamud’s trip to Antalya came days after Türkiye agreed to train and equip Somalia’s navy and help patrol the country’s coastline.
