Somalia, Saudi Arabia sign security cooperation agreement

Somalia and Saudi Arabia have signed a security cooperation agreement in Riyadh, marking a historic step towards strengthening their alliance, the Somali foreign ministry said on Sunday (November 12).

“The agreement is facilitated by the ministries of foreign affairs & International cooperation(Somalia) and interior (Saudi Arabia),” it added on X, the social media website formerly called Twitter.

The ministry did not gave further details about the deal between the two countries, but Somali media said it “aims to enhance security collaboration between the two countries”.

Somalia and Saudi Arabia enjoy deep religious and social ties and are members of the Arab League as well as the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The agreement was signed in Riyadh on Sunday (November 12) in a ceremony attended by Somali foreign affairs minister Abshir Omar Jama and Saudi minister of interior Abdulaziz bin Saud Al Saud.
