Puntland leader Said Abdullahi Deni named a 21-member cabinet late on Wednesday, appointing the son of a former state president as the regional minister for environment.
Deni was elected by local parliamentarians last month for a second term as the leader of the semiautonomous state.
Like the rest of Somalia, Puntland holds indirect elections where clan elders elect members of parliament who in turn vote for the president.
Deni, a former federal planning minister, first became Puntland’s president in 2019 and unsuccessfully ran for federal president in 2022.
His newest cabinet includes Mohamed Farole, son of a former Puntland president, as the state’s environment and climate change minister.
