EU ministers discuss Sudan’s conflict in Luxembourg meeting

The foreign ministers of the European Union will meet in Luxembourg on Monday, April 22, to “exchange views on the latest developments” in the conflict in Sudan, the bloc has said.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres’s personal envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, will attend the meeting in person, the EU said.

The ministers “will exchange views on the latest developments in Sudan after an informal exchange of views” with Lamamra, it added.

The meeting will also discuss the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The war in Sudan, which is in its second year, has claimed at least 14,000 lives, according to the UN, injured and displaced thousands of people and sparked a humanitarian crisis.

Earlier this month, European powers meet in Paris to express support to Sudan.

Save the Children has warned that 230,000 Sudanese children, pregnant women and new mothers are at risk of dying from hunger-related causes unless they receive aid in the coming months.
