Somali president Hassan Sheikh on Saturday signed a law aimed at managing and protecting the environment amid the effects of climate change on the Horn of Africa country.
Minister of environment Khadija Mohamed Al Makhzoumi said on X that the signing of the law was a “step towards safeguarding our natural surroundings and promoting sustainable development”.
The legislation was debated and approved by parliament before being signed by the president.
The Gu rainy season lasts from October to December while the Deyr lasts from April to June.
Somalia is known for its arid climate.
Droughts and desertification are common in the country attributed to environmental degradation and a changing climate.
