The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have agreed to take steps to facilitate the delivery of more humanitarian aid in the country amid peace talks between them in Jeddah, East African bloc IGAD has said.
Saudi Arabia, IGAD, the African Union and the US are facilitating talks between the SAF and the RSF to end months of war in Sudan.
In a statement on Tuesday (November 7), IGAD said the warring sides “have committed to take steps to facilitate increased humanitarian assistance and to implement confidence-building measures (CBMs)”.
“The talks in Jeddah remain focused on a narrow set of objectives – to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance, establish ceasefires and other confidence-building measures, and build toward a permanent cessation of hostilities,” it added.
The SAF and the RSF are, however, yet to agree on a permanet ceasefire to end months of fighting in Sudan.
The SAF is led by Lt Gen Abdel Fattah Al Burhan and the RSF by his former deputy Lt Gen Mohamed Dagalo, who is also known as Hemeti.
